July, 1968, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The occasion was an invitational private performance celebrating the signing of Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company to Columbia Records. For me, the event was fifty minutes of front row photographic joy. I also had the pleasure of meeting Janis that evening. Her enthusiasm and wall-to-wall energy left me with an indelibile moment in rock music history. After Columbia I went on to MCA and PolyGram, Creative VP, art-directed such notable packages as Jesus Christ Superstar and was nominated four times for Grammy Awards. I've just released the photographic results of that memorable night in San Juan in the form of a Limited Edition of 4 20"x24" gallery quality images. They can be viewed and ordered from www.MemorabiliaGalore.com. Each of these limited edition fine art prints are signed and numbered (1-75) by me, (the photographer) with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Saw Janis 8/3/69 in Atlantic City, one of the greatest performances I've even seen. Thought she would be with us so much longer. Great loss. I have her triple CD and love listening to her and remembering her and what it was like during a time when women were emerging like never before. May you rest in peace, Janis.
Iam one of the promoters of the Atlantic CITY POP FESTIVAL and the information you have needs to be corrected. The Festival was August 1,2,3(Friday,Saturday and Sunday. After her first set which was on Sunday(3) I escorted Janis back to the Dressing Rooms. The name of the festival is stated above. It wasn't the International Festival. There is much more to write soI'll put it into my book Confessions of a Promoter.
I could spend houers watching the pictures on your nice website. I hope that the site will growth in the coming periode. Thank you very much. Good-Bye! Peter Casino

I saw Janis many, many times. Ond gig I didn't find listed was the Barn in Scott Valley*, Calif. I have no idea of the date, could be '67 or '68. Very small venue; maybe 400 people. Janis' voice totally blew me away at this gig. And every show I saw be it Monterey or Woodstock or the Avalon or the Fillomre! I had the great, good fortune to have a backstage pass at Monterey and was backstage during one of her sets. She was easy to talk to and we saw her in the Haight a lot. This was before people became superstars, a simple era. I really loved Big Brother and the Holding Co. and was sorry when she left the band. I was on a Hog Farm bus and had just gotten to LA when I heard the sad news! Time flies, but Janis will live forever. *Scott Valley is very near Santa Cruz, Calif.

I was with Janis and her sister at the 1970 class reunion. I wore a crazy hat and she threw her arms around me a a Chronicle photographer caught us. It was printed in Zest magazine and also appeared in the Chronicle's 100 year edition. We left the bank's tea and crumpets for the hard stuff and was photographed extensively by Dick Cavett's photographer. Laura was there and Louie, Gilbert and I from her 1960 class. That night at the reunion, she got an old tire for traveling the farthest and I got an old wig for losing the most hair. I'd give anything for a copy of those photos. Don Reaux

Saw her live twice. 1) Here in Wichita, early days. We slid a bottle of SC onstage in a brown bag that said 'From all the queens here to the Queen'. She started to kick it off, then saw the writing, read it, cackled, popped it and slugged it down. 'Thanks you queens! Come on down closer!' 2) In Kansas City and I was standing on a chair screaming, thinking I never do this. Turned around to look and there were 25,000 others standing on their chairs screaming. Her energy was from the gods. It was huge. She was the best. I was so lucky to have witnessed.
